Pleading
(1-minute read)
In a world engulfed by corruption and violence, Noah stands as a steadfast beacon of righteousness amidst the chaos. With divine warnings echoing in his ears, he and Methuselah tirelessly plead with humanity to repent, their words falling on deaf ears as the earth hurtles towards imminent judgement. As Noah’s commitment to righteousness deepens, he receives a chilling vision of impending doom: angels of punishment poised to unleash cataclysmic waters upon a sinful world. Amidst this turmoil, Noah is tasked by God to build an ark, a colossal vessel designed to shelter the remnants of life from the coming cataclysm. With precise instructions and unwavering faith, Noah constructs the ark, sealing it inside and out with pitch, and gathering animals of every kind to preserve them from the impending catastrophe.
As Noah and his family prepare amidst rising tensions, the legacy of Methuselah weighs heavily upon them. The garments of skin, handed down from God Himself, serve as a symbol of hope and assurance to preserve Noah’s faith amidst the turbulent waters.

Enoch 66:1-3
1 And after that he showed me the angels of punishment who are prepared to come and let loose all the powers of the waters which are beneath in the earth in order to bring judgement and destruction on all who [abide and] dwell on the earth.

3 And I went away from the presence of Enoch.
The waters of judgment
Enoch 67:1-13
1 And in those days the word of God came unto me, and He said unto me: ‘Noah, thy lot has come up before Me, a lot without blame, a lot of love and uprightness.
2 And now the angels are making a wooden (building), and when they have completed that task I will place My hand upon it and preserve it, and there shall come forth from it the seed of life, and a change shall set in so that the earth will not remain without inhabitant.
3 And I will make fast thy seed before me for ever and ever, and I will spread abroad those who dwell with thee: it shall not be unfruitful on the face of the earth, but it shall be blessed and multiply on the earth in the name of the Lord.’
4 And He will imprison those angels, who have shown unrighteousness, in that burning valley which my grandfather Enoch had formerly shown to me in the west among the mountains of gold and silver and iron and soft metal and tin.
5 And I saw that valley in which there was a great convulsion and a convulsion of the waters.
6 And when all this took place, from that fiery molten metal and from the convulsion thereof in that place, there was produced a smell of sulphur, and it was connected with those waters, and that valley of the angels who had led astray (mankind) burned beneath that land.
7 And through its valleys proceed streams of fire, where these angels are punished who had led astray those who dwell upon the earth.
8 But those waters shall in those days serve for the kings and the mighty and the exalted, and those who dwell on the earth, for the healing of the body, but for the punishment of the spirit; now their spirit is full of lust, that they may be punished in their body, for they have denied the Lord of Spirits and see their punishment daily, and yet believe not in His name.
9 And in proportion as the burning of their bodies becomes severe, a corresponding change shall take place in their spirit for ever and ever; for before the Lord of Spirits none shall utter an idle word.
10 For the judgement shall come upon them, because they believe in the lust of their body and deny the Spirit of the Lord.
11 And those same waters will undergo a change in those days; for when those angels are punished in these waters, these water-springs shall change their temperature, and when the angels ascend, this water of the springs shall change and become cold.
12 And I heard Michael answering and saying: ‘This judgement wherewith the angels are judged is a testimony for the kings and the mighty who possess the earth.’
13 Because these waters of judgement minister to the healing of the body of the kings and the lust of their body; therefore they will not see and will not believe that those waters will change and become a fire which burns for ever.
Who can endure the judgment?
Enoch 68:1-4
1 And after that my grandfather Enoch gave me the teaching of all the secrets in the book in the Parables which had been given to him, and he put them together for me in the words of the book of the Parables.
2 And on that day Michael answered Raphael and said: ‘The power of the spirit transports and makes me to tremble because of the severity of the judgement of the secrets, the judgement of the angels: who can endure the severe judgement which has been executed, and before which they melt away?’
3 And Michael answered again, and said to Raphael: ‘Who is he whose heart is not softened concerning it, and whose reins are not troubled by this word of judgement (that) has gone forth upon them because of those who have thus led them out?’
4 And it came to pass when he stood before the Lord of Spirits, Michael said thus to Raphael: ‘I will not take their part under the eye of the Lord; for the Lord of Spirits has been angry with them because they do as if they were the Lord. Therefore all that is hidden shall come upon them for ever and ever; for neither angel nor man shall have his portion (in it), but alone they have received their judgement for ever and ever.’

28 And thou shalt make unto thee a door, open at its side, and to a cubit thou shalt finish above, and cover it within and without with pitch.

i. If Emzara is Naamah, then that would mean that Rake’el is Enoch (Seth’s line). However, this seems strange since earlier in Jubilees 4:16 and 4:22 Enoch is not associated as Rake’el. It’s possible that Rake’el is a title associated with Enoch since it means, “Only for God”, or “Pure before God” which is fitting to his character. It’s also interesting to note that Naamah, the daughter of Lamech from Cain’s line is born around the same time as Enoch’s daughter Naamah is born.
ii. In Genesis, Jasher, and Jubilees, Ham is the secondborn. However, there is a difference in Jasher which says that Japheth was firstborn and Ham was thirdborn. Because the order in Jubilees matches with Genesis, I went with that order.
iii. Jasher 5:19 suggests that Lamech died in the 195th year of the life of Noah which would be year 1251, not 1651 which matches Lamech’s lifespan. Also, Jasher states Lamech’s lifespan to be 770 years whereas Genesis states 777 years.
iv. Jubilees 5:22 suggests that Noah built the ark the year before the flood whereas Jasher 5:33-34 suggests it was 5 years before the flood.
v. Jasher states that Methuselah lived for 960 years whereas Genesis states that he lived for 969 years.

Exposition
Y: 1536 | YHWH tells Methuselah and Noah to preach for 120 years
Genesis 6:3, 6, Jasher 5:6-11, Jubilees 5:8
After many years had passed, in the 480th year of Noah’s life, all the men who had followed the Lord had died, leaving only Methuselah among them. At that time, God spoke to Noah and Methuselah, saying, “Speak to the people and tell them, ‘This is what the Lord says: Turn away from your evil ways and abandon your wicked deeds. If you do, the Lord will relent from the disaster He said He would bring upon you, and it won’t happen.’”
The LORD declared, “My Spirit will not contend with humans forever, because they are flesh. Their days will be limited to 120 years.”
He also said, “Look, I’m giving you a period of 120 years. If you turn back to me and abandon your evil ways, I will also turn away from the disaster I foretold, and it won’t happen,” says the Lord.
Noah and Methuselah went out and shared all of the Lord’s words with the people, speaking to them every day without stopping. But the people wouldn’t listen or pay attention to what they said. They were stubborn. Still, the Lord granted them a period of 120 years, saying, “If they return, then I will relent from the disaster and will not destroy the earth.”
But the Lord regretted that He had made humanity on the earth, and it deeply grieved Him.
Y: 1553 | YHWH tells Noah to marry and have children
Jasher 5:12-15a
Noah, the son of Lamech, chose not to marry during those days or have children. He said, “Surely God is going to destroy the earth, so why should I bring children into it?”
But Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation, and the Lord chose him to carry on a righteous lineage on the earth. The Lord said to Noah, “Take a wife and have children, because I’ve seen that you’re righteous before me in this generation. You will raise up children, and your children with you, in the center of the earth.”
Y: 1554 | Noah marries Naamah (Emzara)
Jasher 5:15b-16, Jubilees 4:33a
In the 25th jubilee, during the 1st year of the 5th week, Noah took a wife named Emzara (Naamah). She was the daughter of Rake’el, who was the daughter of Noah’s father’s brother. At that time, Naamah was 580 years old and Noah was 498 years old.
Noah has 3 sons
Genesis 5:32, 6:9-10
This is the account of Noah: Noah was a righteous man, blameless among his generation. He walked with God. When Noah was 500 years old, he had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
Y: 1556 | Shem is born
Jasher 5:17b, Jubilees 4:33b
Naamah became pregnant and gave birth to a son, and Noah named him Shem, saying, “God has given me a remnant to carry on a lineage in the center of the earth.”
Y: 1558 | Ham is born
Jasher 5:18a, Jubilees 4:33c
When Noah was 502 years old, Naamah gave birth to Ham.
Y: 1561 | Japheth is born
Jasher 5:17a, Jubilees 4:33d
Naamah conceived again and gave birth to another son, and Noah named him Japheth, saying, “God has enlarged my presence in the earth.”
The boys grew up righteous
Jasher 5:18b
The boys grew up walking in the ways of the Lord, following all the teachings of Methuselah and their father Noah.
J: 34 | Y: 1651 | Lamech (Seth’s line) died
Genesis 5:30-31,Jasher 5:19-20
Lamech lived 595 years after the birth of Noah and had other sons and daughters. In those days, Lamech, Noah’s father, passed away. Although he didn’t follow the ways of his father wholeheartedly, he died in Noah’s 195th year. Lamech lived a total of 777 years and then died.
Rising Action
The earth is corrupt
Genesis 6:11-12
The earth had become corrupt in God’s sight, and it was filled with violence. God looked at the earth and saw that it was completely corrupt, because all flesh had ruined its way on the earth.
Methuselah and Noah called to preach again
Jasher 5:21-24
That same year, all the people who had known the Lord died, before God brought judgment upon the earth. The Lord caused them to die so they wouldn’t have to witness the evil He was about to bring upon their brothers and relatives, just as He had said He would.
At that time, the Lord said to Noah and Methuselah, “Stand up and speak to the people. Tell them all the words I spoke to you before—maybe they’ll turn from their evil ways. If they do, I’ll change my mind about the disaster and won’t bring it.”
So Noah and Methuselah stood up and told the people everything God had said about them. But the people refused to listen. They wouldn’t pay attention to anything Noah and Methuselah told them.
Noah is shown angels holding back the deluge
Enoch 66:1-3
After that, I, Noah, was shown the angels of punishment who were ready to release all the forces of the waters beneath the earth to bring judgment and destruction on everyone living there. But the Lord of Spirits gave a command to those angels, telling them not to let the waters rise yet, but to hold them back. These angels were in charge of the powers over the waters. After I saw this, I left the presence of Enoch.
Climax
The waters of judgment
Enoch 67:1-13
In those days, the word of God came to me, and He said, “Noah, your lot has come up before Me—a lot without blame, full of love and integrity. Now the angels are building a wooden structure, and when they finish it, I will lay My hand on it and protect it. From it, the seed of life will emerge, and a change will come so that the earth will no longer be empty. I will make your descendants secure before Me forever, and I will spread out those who dwell with you. The earth will not remain barren, but will be blessed and filled with people in the name of the Lord.”
He will imprison those angels who acted wickedly in the burning valley that my grandfather Enoch had shown me earlier, in the west, among the mountains filled with gold, silver, iron, soft metal, and tin.
I saw that valley, and there was a massive upheaval—an earthquake and a disturbance in the waters. From that fiery molten metal and its convulsion in that place, a smell of sulfur arose. It mixed with the waters, and that valley, where the angels who misled humanity were cast, burned beneath the land. Streams of fire ran through its valleys, punishing those angels who had led people astray on the earth.
But in those days, those same waters will be used by kings, the powerful, and the exalted who live on the earth. They will bring healing to the body but punishment to the spirit. Their spirits are full of lust, so they will be punished in their bodies, because they rejected the Lord of Spirits. They see their punishment every day, but still refuse to believe in His name. And as their bodily torment increases, their spirits will undergo a lasting transformation, forever and ever, because before the Lord of Spirits, no one speaks carelessly. Judgment will fall on them because they trusted in the desires of their bodies and denied the Spirit of the Lord.
In those days, those same waters will change. When the angels are punished in them, the springs will shift in temperature. When the angels rise, the spring water will become cold. I heard Michael say, “This judgment against the angels serves as a testimony to the kings and mighty ones who rule the earth.”
Because these waters of judgment are used to heal the bodies of kings and satisfy their desires, they won’t recognize or believe that these waters will eventually become a fire that burns forever.
Who can endure the judgment?
Enoch 68:1-4
After that, my grandfather Enoch gave me the teachings of all the secrets written in the Book of Parables that had been revealed to him. He compiled them for me in the words of the Book of Parables.
On that day, Michael responded to Raphael and said, “The power of the spirit moves me and makes me tremble because of how severe the judgment of the hidden things is—the judgment of the angels. Who can endure such a harsh judgment, before which even they melt away?”
Then Michael spoke again to Raphael: “Who wouldn’t be shaken by this judgment? Who wouldn’t feel their heart soften and their inner being troubled when they hear this word of judgment that has gone out against those who led others astray?”
And when he stood before the Lord of Spirits, Michael said to Raphael, “I will not stand up for them under the Lord’s gaze, because the Lord of Spirits is angry with them. They acted as if they were the Lord Himself. That’s why everything hidden will be revealed upon them forever and ever. Neither angel nor man will share in their portion—only they have received this judgment, forever and ever.”
Falling Action
YHWH tells Noah that the end is near
Genesis 6:13, Jasher 5:25, Jubilees 5:20-21a
God said to Noah, “The end of all living beings has come before Me, because the earth is filled with violence because of them. Look, I will destroy them along with the earth.”
YHWH tells Noah to build an ark
Genesis 6:14-18, Jasher 5:26-29, Jubilees 5:21b
“Build an ark out of gopher wood. Make rooms inside the ark and coat it with pitch on the inside and outside. This is how you should build it: the ark should be 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. Make a window for the ark and finish it a cubit from the top. Put the door in the side of the ark, and make lower, second, and third levels.
Look, I—yes, I—am going to bring a flood of waters on the earth to destroy all living things that have the breath of life under heaven. Everything on earth will die. But I will establish My covenant with you. You will go into the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.”
YHWH tells Noah to bring animals into the ark
Genesis 6:19-20, Jasher 5:30
“Bring two of every kind of living creature into the ark with you to keep them alive. They should be male and female. Of birds according to their kind, livestock according to their kind, and every creeping thing on the earth according to its kind—two of every kind will come to you so you can keep them alive.”
