Deluge

In a world consumed by corruption and wickedness, Noah emerges as a beacon of righteousness amidst a sea of darkness. As the Earth teeters on the brink of divine judgment, Noah, guided by unwavering faith, undertakes a monumental task: to build an ark that will shelter the innocent from impending doom. Creatures of every kind heed his call, drawn by a primal instinct to survive the cataclysmic flood that will cleanse the world of sin.

Amidst thunderous warnings and apocalyptic signs, Noah fulfills his sacred duty, guiding his family and the animals into the ark as the skies unleash their fury. The torrential rains descend for forty days and nights, plunging the world into chaos and despair. Yet within the ark, amidst the howls of wild beasts and the cries of humanity, Noah stands firm, a rock of faith in the tempest.

As the floodwaters recede, the ark becomes a vessel of hope, adrift on a transformed world where mountains disappear beneath the relentless tide. Through months of uncertainty and harrowing trials, Noah and his family cling to the promise of deliverance, their endurance tested by the unyielding power of nature. When at last the earth dries and the sun casts its light upon the newly cleansed land, Noah waits for divine guidance, ready to step forth into a world reborn, a testament to the enduring power of faith and redemption.

19 And Noah, with a loud voice, answered them from the ark, saying, Have you not all rebelled against the Lord, and said that he does not exist? and therefore the Lord brought upon you this evil, to destroy and cut you off from the face of the earth.

21 And they said to Noah, We are ready to return to the Lord; only open for us that we may live and not die.

And Noah prayed to the Lord, and cried to him on account of this, and he said, “O Lord help us, for we have no strength to bear this evil that has encompassed us, for the waves of the waters have surrounded us, mischievous torrents have terrified us, the snares of death have come before us; answer us, O Lord, answer us, light up your countenance toward us and be gracious to us, redeem us and deliver us.”

D: 17 | YHWH answers Noah’s prayer
Genesis 8:1, 3-4, Jasher 6:32-33, 35, Jubilees 5:28, 29b
And the Lord listened to the voice of Noah, and the Lord remembered him. And a wind passed over the earth, and the waters were still and the ark rested. And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the 150 days, the waters were abated. And the ark rested in the 7th month, on the 17th day of the month, on the top of Lubar, one of the mountains of Ararat. And on the new moon of the 7th month, all the mouths of the abysses of the earth were opened, and the water began to descend into the deep below.

M: 10 | D: 1 | The tops of the mountains are seen
Genesis 8:5, Jasher 6:36-37, Jubilees 5:30a
And the waters decreased continually until the 10th month: in the 10th month, on the 1st day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.
And Noah then opened the windows of the ark, and Noah still called out to the Lord at that time and he said, “O Lord, who did form the earth and the heavens and all that are therein, bring forth our souls from this confinement, and from the prison wherein you have placed us, for I am much wearied with sighing.”

And the Lord listened to the voice of Noah, and said to him, “When you have completed a full year you will then go forth.”

M: 12 | D: 10 | A raven and dove sent out
Genesis 8:6-9
And it came to pass at the end of 40 days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made: And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro until the waters were dried up from off the earth. Also, he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground; But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned to him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand and took her, and pulled her in to him into the ark.

M: 12 | D: 17 | A dove sent the second time
Genesis 8:10-11
And he stayed yet another 7 days, and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark, and the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf plucked off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.

M: 12 | D: 24 | A dove sent the third time
Genesis 8:12
And he stayed yet another 7 days and sent forth the dove; which returned not again to him anymore.

Y: 1657 | M: 1 | D: 1 | Noah removes the covering
Genesis 8:13, Jasher 6:38, Jubilees 5:30b
And it came to pass in the 601st year, in the 1st month, the 1st day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.

M: 2 | D: 27 | The earth dried
Genesis 8:14, Jasher 6:39, Jubilees 5:31
At that time, on the 27th day of the 2nd month, the earth was dry, but Noah and his sons, and those that were with him, did not go out from the ark until the Lord told them.

i. It seems that Jubilees is off by 1 year.
ii. Jubilees 5:31 states that the earth was dried on the 17th day of the 2nd month whereas Genesis 8:14 and Jasher 6:39 suggest it was the 27th day of the 2nd month. Jubilees 5:32 has the animals leaving on the 27th day of the 2nd month and so do Genesis and Jasher.
